€1,750 per acre price tag on Ring of Kerry farm

Located in a stunning setting near the village of Beaufort, Co Kerry, a 60-acre farm that is currently for sale with Killorglin-based auctioneers Jim Burns & Co certainly cuts a scenic presence, whatever about the quality of the land.
The non-residential farm is a neatly maintained holding which is well fenced all around with clearly defined boundaries. According to selling agent Darragh Burns, this is a hill farm in a beautiful setting.
“This would be hill land in the main,” says Darragh. “There’s good potential there, however. The Macgillycuddy Reeks serve as a backdrop to the farm and there’s an internal road through the farm and there’s a spring there providing its own water source.”
The property is situated in the townland of Gortloughra, about 7km south of Killorglin and 15km from Beaufort, in an area resplendent of the outstanding beauty that has made this part of the world a famous tourist magnet for the last 150 years.
Access is very good and the farm enjoys a short stretch of road frontage. The possibility of ever building a house or forming the basis for some kind of tourism centre may be a tempting one but there isn’t anything to suggest that such planning permission would be possible, despite its proximity to one of Ireland’s principal tourism arteries — the Ring of Kerry.
The price guide of €1,750 per acre is reasonable given the quality of the land in question but this is a very much sought-after part of the world and one would wonder at just what percentage of interested parties will be from a completely non-farming background; people looking at it with a hope to move there or set up a tourism business or even as a long-term investment.
