World Bank executive praises low-emission Irish dairy
“If every cow was as good as the top 10% of cows in Ireland, we would have a third less methane emissions on this planet,” Dr Voegele told an OECD conference on climate change in Paris.
“If Ireland produces a litre of milk or a kilogram of beef, it does it with a much lower footprint than the rest of the European community.”
Dr Voegele is director of agricultural global practice, World Bank, Washington.
“How many of you have been to Ireland recently?” he asked.
“I was there and I was floored by the approach the Government and the private sector takes to managing the triple win, high productivity, better resilience and a much lower footprint.”
