Rathpeacon raises funds for autism
Fourteen teams took part in the quiz. ICA members came from Grenagh, Whitechurch and Carraig na bhFear guilds, while one lady came from Upper Glanmire Guild. Neighbours and friends outside of ICA also attended the event in Rathpeacon Hall.
Rathpeacon ICA has just held its AGM. “We’ve got a committee for the coming year — this is always a great challenge when there’s a change over of officers,” says guild secretary Alice O’Neill.
The guild has 18 members. “We have the same gang with a long time. One member, Kathleen O’Sullivan returned to us a year ago. Carmel Buckley is a [relatively] new member who joined in recent years.
It’s very difficult for us, near the city, to get new members — Active Retired is big in Whitechurch and Blarney, and not everybody wants to attend meetings,” says Alice. One member, Máire Gantley, sadly passed away recently. “She was a great member for baking,” she says.
While she was in Rathpeacon, Phil O’Leary also took the opportunity to present two long-service certificates to guild members Gobnait Flynn and Rose Manley — who are ICA members for 50 and 45 years respectively. Long- service certificates have since been presented to three other members — Nora Foley, Noreen Cronin (both with 50 years’ membership) and Eileen Magner (45 years).
Rathpeacon Guild members recently enjoyed lunch together in the Castle Hotel, Blarney. They’re planning walks through the summer and they’ll be helping as usual with catering at the annual Rathpeacon Field Day.
