Easier tone to the trade for lambs
All the processors have adjusted prices downward for this week.
Some have reduced slaughtering days for this week. Others quoted prices for only 24 to 48 hours forward.
Moyvalley offered an all-in 460 cent/kg (164 p/lb) for this week, but subject to mid-week review.
The other processors were all on 450 cent/kg plus quality bonus.
In the marts on Monday, the trade varied from steady to easier by as much as €6 per head, with larger supplies of lambs on offer.
There was a large sale of 1,200 head at Fermoy Mart on Monday, where the trade was reported to be steady.
Butchers paid €98 to €110 per head, equivalent to €50 over to €56 over.
Factory lambs sold for €78 to €98 per head, or €40 over to €53 over.
There was a large sale of 1,500 head at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, where prices eased by €2 to €6 per head.
Butchers lambs sold for €47 over to €60 over, and factory lambs made €43 over to €48 over.
The trade in Britain remained steady for most of last week, with lamb prices at 440 cent/kg by the weekend.
In France, despite Ramadan coming to an end, the trade weakened slightly as supplies from Britain increased during the past week.
Prices for Irish grade 1 spring lamb were at about 465 cent/kg in Paris by the weekend.
