Munster breeders bag Aberdeen Angus titles

MUNSTER breeders showed the overall champion and reserve, the senior and junior champions and the reserves at the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association’s All-Ireland finals at Tinahely Show in Co Wicklow.

Albert and Jennifer de Cogan, Castlemartyr, Co Cork, who are having another tremendous season on the exhibiting circuit, showed the overall breed champion, Deveron Jasper Eric, a two-year-old bull, having previously been judged the senior champion.

The reserve overall champion was the junior champion, Westellan Dixie, a home bred bull calf shown by John and Kate Tait, Rostellan, Midleton, Co Cork, who also showed the junior cow winner, Westellen Black Belinda.

Dr Michael Sheahan, Grange, Kilmallock, Co Limerick, showed the senior reserve champion, Netherton Flora, a five-year-old cow. The reserve junior champion was Friarstown Francis, a heifer bred and shown by Dairygold chief executive Jerry Henchy.

In the young handlers’ competition, David Goulding, Kerry, beat off stiff competition from last year’s winner, Bryan O’Halloran, who had a busy day showing his own cattle as well as animals from other herds.

The commercial supreme and female champions were shown by Robert McGivern, Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.

During the livestock judging at Tinahely, Myra Dineen, Bandon, Co Cork kept the large attendance well informed with her commentary on the animals shown.

* Seamus Lehane, Clonakilty, Co Cork showed the winner of the Red Mills Non-Thoroughbred Two Year Old All-Ireland Championship at Tinahely.
