Abnormal animal death theory discounted by records

DETAILED analysis of Cattle Movement Monitoring System (CMMS) records for the past three years revealed no evidence to support claims of abnormal farm animal mortality in the Askeaton, Co Limerick area.

Abnormal animal death theory discounted by records

The analysis was carried out by the Department of Agriculture at the request of Limerick IFA. Speaking at an IFA meeting, Askeaton farmer Simon White said, “If anything, the rate of deaths in animals in the Askeaton area is lower than average, according to the CMMS records”.

“People were making claims that animals were dying in inordinate numbers, but we could not actually find the evidence on the ground ourselves, and now we know that the evidence is not there, according to the CMMS.”

“Some people may not want to accept these figures, but we have gone through the figures with the Department and I am satisfied there is not a vast number of deaths at the moment.”

The CMMS is a database for cattle in which birth registrations, animal movements and other relevant traceability information is recorded.
