Aberdeen Angus boost in fast food restaurant chains
The chain has launched the Aberdeen Angus beef burger, first in the US, followed by a UK launch earlier this month.
The Angus is the only burger from a fast food restaurant with accreditation from the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society, whose chief executive, Ron McHattie, said it was good news for the breed.
“This is the first time a restaurant of this size has had Aberdeen Angus beef on its menu,” he said.
More good news for the breeders is that McDonald’s, another huge worldwide fast food chain, has been serving “Angus Third Pounders” as a test addition to their menus in six of their Los Angeles restaurants.
Burger King’s new product is made with 100% flame grilled fully certified Aberdeen Angus beef sourced from farmers in the UK and Ireland. Their North West Europe division vice president Giorgio Minardi said: “Ahead of this UK launch we sampled The Angus with our customers in selected restaurants, and for quality and taste it was the best response we have ever had.”
Meanwhile, McDonald’s have also reported positive customer response to their Angus burgers, but said they had no plans yet to make them a permanent menu option.
