Donal Carey, Teagasc director of training and development, announcing details of the event yesterday, said experts from mainstream and alternative enterprises will be in one location, providing advice and guidance on all of the issues facing farmers and rural dwellers.

Tony Pettit, Head of Kildalton College, said there are fundamental shifts occurring across rural Ireland.

Teagasc experts will be on hand to give guidance and technical advice across a wide range of farming issues, schemes and rural development options.

Emerging issues will feature, including alternative energy sources, new environmental standards and farm buildings specifications. There will also be an energy village, an environmental village and an eServices village.

Indigenous Food producers will have the opportunity to showcase their products to a wide audience.

Eddie O’ Neill, technology transfer specialist at the Food Research Centre, Moorepark, said that on the longest day of the year a wide variety of artisan and speciality foods can be seen and tasted in an outdoor farmer’s market against the imposing backdrop of Kildalton House.

Visitors can view farm enterprises, equitation school and horticultural units at Kildalton. A wide range of trade exhibitors, major agencies and local organisations will be participating.

The Department of Agriculture and Food will have a clinic to answer queries on the single farm payment and on related schemes.
