Bakery gets €10m expansion
Mr Browne said this latest investment highlights the company’s commitment to the development of premium products in the bakery sector.
“It is heart-warming to see a company making such strides to increase and expand their business in a local environment,” he said.
Mr Browne said the new facility will double the capacity at the plant and will enable Irish Pride to produce the highest quality products for the marketplace.
It will also provide the company with a competitive advantage, ensuring that retailers, foodservices providers and consumers can buy the freshest bread possible at all times.
Reflecting on the history and tradition of bread making in Taghmon, the minister said the bakery was founded by the Williams family in 1878 and moved to its present location in 1981.
Since the 1980s under the stewardship of Tom Williams, the bakery saw significant growth and development, and was taken over by Irish Pride in 1989.
“Since then development has continued and the bakery is now one of the most modern in Ireland and produces 50% of Irish Pride’s output of bread.
“The employment the bakery has provided down the years and its value to the local economy is very significant.”
