Agreement paves way for Patrickswell venue for Limerick Agricultural Show
Racecourse high rollers will be replaced by agricultural exhibitors at the brand new venue six miles from Limerick city, complete with luxurious bars and restaurants, conference and banqueting facilities, and parking for 2000 cars.
Dick Power, chairman, Limerick Show Society has confirmed that an agreement has been signed in time to stage this years show on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25 at Greenmount.
He said “We are moving into the most magnificent facilities that the McMahon family, who have a long association with Limerick Show, have provided at Greenmount. It is a wonderful development for the Show and I have no doubt that we must be the envy of every show organiser in the country. It is the start of a new era in the history of the great Limerick Show“.
Limerick Show moved to the Limerick Race Company grounds at Greenpark in the city in early 1930s, where the annual event became the largest livestock show in the country.
The decision of the Limerick Race Company to sell their Greenpark site for residential development, and to purchase Greenmount Estate at Patrickswell for development, left the show looking for a new home.
For the past five years, while Greenmount was developed, the Show moved to grounds at Clonshire, near Adare, but it failed to attract the level of support which it traditionally had at Limerick.
The location and accessibility of the racecourse near the new Adare to Limerick motorway will be a huge crowd pulling advantage for the Show.
