Recently I paid a visit to the graveyard of an icon of the 21st century, Tom Crean, the famous Antarctica explorer, in Ballynacourty near Annascaul in Co Kerry.

Bullying remains a very big issue for parents, children and teachers alike. Its effects can be devastating and for many continues well into adult life. So it is no surprise that a positive response is needed.

To deprive others of the civil and free use of their conscience for upholding what they consider a correct course of action in a matter as grave as the termination of the life of a human being, is unacceptable.

What difference does it make whether Mohammed Morsi was democratically elected in Egypt, a term that must be taken lightly given the flawed nomination process for that election.

All I can say is, come on Australia, hope you whack the ‘British’ Lions!

I wrote in Nov 2011 that the Oireachtas Referendum should be put to the people again with clarification re (1) people having recourse to the courts following an investigation, and (2) clarifying what (extreme) circumstances needed to be in place before investigators could enter a person’s home to seek out/remove possible evidence and (3) clarifying what made an issue qualify for being, “in the public interest”.

As the negligence, incompetence and general uselessness of our very expensive governmental system becomes more exposed by the day, one fact emerges continually — none of them will ever be held responsible for anything.

Darren O’Keeffe (Letters, Jul 1) takes the Government to task for the inappropriateness of their “doom-and-gloom tactics”.

It is becoming increasingly obvious in the inevitable unfolding crisis and clearly unsustainable situation in what we liberally, generously and erroneously call the ‘private health insurance’ and ‘private healthcare’ markets, that these were, and are, unhealthy and distorted markets.

The boundary constituency changes for the next general election have been passed in Dáil Éireann. In the case of my own county, Mayo, a significant portion of the south has transferred into Galway West.
