I took great comfort in reading Ursula Halligan’s article about her sexuality. While her journey is different to mine we are of a similar generation and I can identify with so much of what she wrote especially that she tried to deny her sexuality.

What’s wrong with difference? Nothing. It’s natural, a reality; we cannot deny it. Same sex and heterosexual couples are not the same so treating them differently is not discriminatory.

The no side in this referendum claim to have the best interest of children and families as their priority. We are, by now, well familiar with the catchphrases and posters used to promote this agenda.

On the streets of Waterford on May 16, I was abused while canvassing for a ‘no’ vote in the marriage referendum.

Many aspects of marriage are common to other relationships. If marriage is a matter of two people who love one another there is no problem.

Passing the gay marriage referendum will not affect the number of children having two fathers or two mothers. Existing legislation covers that.
