Edel McGinley in her letter on migration (Irish Examiner, August 24) completely ignores the broader context and the long-term impact of migration on Europe and its way of life.

Sheila Griffin asks what I meant when I said (Letters, August 24) that Catholic institutions were responsible for the deaths of girls and women who died whilst incarcerated in Magdalene laundries. 

Poor Ireland, whatever you think about past generations they at least had their leaders of stature.

I refer to the letter by Donal O’Keeffe (‘Families sent their daughters to laundries’ – The Irish Examiner, August 24).

I was amazed to read that Bishop William Crean of Cloyne diocese has prohibited Fr. Tony Flannery from giving a lecture to the Killeagh Pastoral Council’s ‘Spiritfest’ event.

No-one should be surprised hearing Fr Tony Flannery complain about being censored.

Our President has said the EU treatment of migrants is shameful. Is it not shameful that a taxpayer-funded naval vessel is collecting migrants for resettlement in Europe?

The vintage Hawker Hunter fighter jet that crashed on to a busy roadway during an air show in Shoreham, Sussex, England, last weekend had also performed at recent air shows in Ireland — at Shannon, Bray and Foynes — which were attended by up to 150,000 people. It might just as easily have crashed at one of these shows causing many deaths, including that of children.

The privatisation of Irish Water is high on the list of the Troika and their powerbroker and profiteering friends.

In your article ‘Bank loans “best” for homeless charities’ it is stated that I “asserted up to €500 million in funding for social housing made available by the Housing Finance Agency was left unclaimed” (Irish Examiner, August 25).
