Onesonic Megamaus 2 review: A punchy, portable powerhouse for any adventure

When you are packing a rucksack for a hike or squeezing essentials into a carry-on, every millimetre of space matters. I found the Megamaus 2 Bluetooth speaker from Irish audio firm Onesonic to be exactly this type of companion: a small, durable speaker that offers enough battery life to last a full day without being so bulky that it becomes a chore to carry. It manages to balance portability with a 360-degree sound profile that makes it far more capable than its footprint suggests.
The Megamaus 2 is roughly the size of a large coffee mug, wrapped in a stylish fabric mesh that feels premium to the touch. On the side, there are large, easy-to-use plus and minus buttons for volume control. A sturdy rubber flap covers the more technical side of the device, housing a multi-functional play/power button.
Once you lift that flap, you find a useful array of ports: a USB-C port for charging, a 3.5mm jack for an auxiliary input, and a micro-SD card slot. The inclusion of the SD slot is a massive plus for me, as it allows for completely autonomous music playback without needing to drain my phone battery.
Each end of the speaker features an air-breathing port that physically moves with the music, adding a bit of visual excitement to the listening experience. One end features rubber feet to keep it stable on a table, while the other side displays the Onesonic logo alongside lights that indicate volume levels. It also comes with a stylish, rope-style built-in lanyard, making it easy to clip onto a bag. You can pick it up in either black or grey.
It's worth noting that the Megamaus 2 does not come with a companion app, but I found the physical controls were more than enough for my needs. One of the best features I tested was the True Wireless Stereo (TWS) mode. If you have two Megamaus 2 units, you can pair them together to create a true stereo image. In my testing, this significantly expanded the soundstage and increased the overall volume, which is brilliant if you are hosting a small group.
The speaker also includes a built-in microphone. It works well for hands-free calls, and the play button functions to answer or reject incoming calls.
For a speaker this compact, the sound quality is surprisingly excellent. Most small speakers struggle with directionality, but the Megamaus 2 delivers true 360-degree audio. This makes it awesome for outdoor use; you can place it in the middle of a picnic blanket and hear the same clarity regardless of where you are sitting. As I mentioned earlier, using TWS mode with a second unit further enhances the experience by providing much fuller audio, which helps fill a larger room with a more balanced sound.
In terms of stamina, the Megamaus 2 offers 12 hours of playback time. For a long day out in the sun, that’s plenty of headroom. The speaker takes about three hours to reach a full charge. While I would have preferred a slightly faster charging time to get back up and running quickly, three hours isn't a dealbreaker, especially since it’s easy enough to just plug it in overnight.
The Onesonic Megamaus 2 is a fantastic little Bluetooth speaker. It feels rugged, handles the elements well with its IPX7 rating, and sounds much larger than it actually is. It is great to see an Irish company like Onesonic bringing such high-quality, functional products to the market. If you need something dependable for your next trip, this is a brilliant choice.
