Never get stranded again: Vantrue JS3 5-in-1 jump starter and inflator review

After a month of being away, I returned to a completely dead car battery. The Vantrue JS3 Jump Start 5-in-1 was among my recent deliveries, providing the perfect opportunity to test this all-in-one safety device under real-world pressure.

Returning home after four weeks away is usually a relief, but this time it was met with frustration. My car battery was completely flat; it was so depleted that even the central locking refused to operate. As I was sorting through a pile of recent parcels, I spotted the Vantrue JS3 Jump Start 5-in-1. It felt like a sign from the universe that I had the perfect scenario to test this device. I hooked up the large jump cables to the battery, switched the unit on, and pressed the start button in the car. To my relief, it fired up on the very first crank.

The JS3 comes in a handy case that keeps the main unit on one side and the jump cable and inflator tube on the other. It features a practical rubber-style handle on top, making it easy to grab and carry. On one side, there are protective flaps covering the large socket for the jump cables and another outlet for the compressor. On the left side is a USB-A port for charging your phone or other devices, alongside a 65W USB-C port (in/out) for recharging the JS3 itself. While the buttons feel great to use and have a tactile, high-quality click, I found the embossed icons hard to see in low light—though having the 'unit switch' label beneath the power button helped. A simple use of colour for the symbols would make a huge difference to the user experience.

Display

The real-time digital display is excellent. It is very bright and easy to read, even in direct sunlight. It clearly shows the remaining battery percentage, the current voltage, and your target pressure. One of the best parts is the mode switch; you can quickly toggle between preset modes for different vehicle types or manually set your own air pressure. The ease of use really removes much of the guesswork during an emergency.

The integrated lighting system is quite powerful. The white light provides plenty of brightness for working under a bonnet, and the various hazard warning patterns, including SOS and strobe modes, are excellent for making yourself visible on a dark roadside.

Performance

In terms of raw power, the compressor is impressively fast. I tested it on a tyre that had dropped to 16 psi, and it inflated it back up to a healthy 32 psi in just a few minutes. It handles the pressure with ease and stops automatically once the target is reached.

Real-world uses

The JS3 proved its worth far beyond my car. I put it through several tests, using it to top up the tyres on a much larger motorhome and to inflate bicycle tyres. Its ability to handle equipment at different scales makes it a very flexible tool to have in your kit.

Verdict

The JS3 5-in-1 is an essential piece of kit to keep in your boot for those unexpected moments. We have all experienced that sinking feeling of returning to a car only to find the battery has died because a light was left on. Having this device means you are no longer stranded or reliant on the kindness of strangers. It provides peace of mind that you can handle a breakdown independently.
