KFC China introduces facial recognition technology
Beijing KFC has become one of the first fast-food restaurants in the world to use facial recognition technology as means of speeding up services, according to an article by The Guardian.
Teaming up with China’s search engine giant Baidu, a spokesperson for KFC said that the new technology can “recommend menu items based on a customer’s estimated age and mood” and will also be used to recall “repeat customers and their orders”.
Once customers have chosen their order they simply pay with their mobile phone and collect their meal a few moments later at the counter.
There have been concerns regarding customer privacy, but as the technology is still in very early days it is likely that these concerns will be addressed in due time.
