The iPhone probably won’t be getting a bigger battery any time soon because Apple feels it would make the handset less compelling.

Apple’s design guru Jonathan Ive said that the reason the iPhone’s battery depletes so quickly is because people use it so much. Because the iPhone is so thin and light, he maintains, people fiddle with it constantly. If Apple put a larger battery in the handset, it would make it heavier and more cumbersome. Of course, this would impact the iPhone’s premium feel and could affect sales.So, while many of us complain about the iPhone’s battery life, any attempts to improve it would make fewer people interested in owning one. It’s interesting logic, to say the least. We’re unsure if battery weight would make that much of an impact. But you don’t sell millions of handsets every year without having a feel for what people want.Apple’s next announcement, the Watch, is already coming under scrutiny for its battery life.
