I have spent the last few weeks testing the Lamtto 11-inch CarPlay display while road-tripping in my old motorhome. It has been a useful companion for both navigation during transit and for entertainment when parked up. Because of its massive footprint, this screen won't suit every vehicle; if you have a very cramped dashboard or a small cockpit, it might feel overwhelming. However, on my larger dash, it worked brilliantly, providing a clear canvas for maps and a great way to watch videos when I was stationary.

Design

The physical setup of the display is quite versatile. It comes with a suction cup mount and an extension arm with a ball joint, which was particularly helpful as my motorhome's dashboard isn't perfectly flat. This allowed me to tilt and position the screen exactly where I needed it for visibility.

One detail I found essential during my testing was the 3.5mm AUX audio port on the left side. While the display has its own built-in speakers, they are functional but lack any real depth or punch. To get a much better experience, I connected the Lamtto directly to my motorhome’s existing entertainment system via an aux cable. This allowed audio to play through the vehicle's much larger speakers, making listening to my favourite tunes or watching films far more immersive while parked up.

Display

The 11-inch 1280x800 IPS panel is quite impressive. I found that even in bright daylight, the screen remained easy to read, with minimal glare obscuring the maps. The colours are vibrant, and the 2.5D curved glass gives it a premium feel.

However, there was one small annoyance during my night drives. While the interface automatically switches to dark mode when it gets dark, I had to adjust the brightness manually. I found it necessary to drop the brightness to the lowest setting for nighttime driving to avoid distracting glare in the cabin, then crank it back up to maximum during the day. It would have been a significant improvement if there were a built-in light sensor to handle this transition automatically.

Features

The standout feature is undoubtedly the ability to stream content like YouTube and Prime Video. By connecting the unit to my phone's hotspot, I could easily stream videos while parked up. The wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection worked almost instantly every time I started the engine. It also includes a 1080P rearview camera, which is quite easy to install, though for me, the entertainment aspect was the real draw.

Software and UI

The software feels responsive and snappy. I did not encounter any of the frustrating lag that can sometimes plague these portable aftermarket units. There is a very handy little dot on the screen that acts as a shortcut; when you tap it, a contextual menu appears, giving you quick access to volume, brightness, and system navigation. This makes it much easier to tweak settings without digging through several layers of menus while you are on the move.

Verdict

The Lamtto RC35 is a great choice for larger vehicles needing an entertainment upgrade. Although the manual brightness adjustment is a bit of a chore, the large, clear screen and easy streaming capabilities make it a fantastic companion for long-distance motorhome trips.
