Review - Sennheiser Momentum
The headphones market has changed markedly in recent years, with stylish headsets coming to the fore – occasionally at the expense of sound quality. With its Momentum range, however, Sennheiser is attempting to prove that it’s possible to combine style with substance.
Clearly, Sennheiser knows how to design a set of headphones. The Momentum’s leather headband looks great and feels even better, while the ear cups are fashioned from comfortable memory foam wrapped in leather. Even after extended use, the Momentum headphones remain a joy to use. The metal sliders are practical and stylish; rounding out the overall device’s striking aesthetic. The build quality is excellent, though their solid design does make them a little less portable than some of their competitors.
Headphones with a focus on design tend to traditionally favour low-end frequencies, but Sennheiser does things differently with a smooth balanced sound across the spectrum. The bass is strong without being overpowering, the mids pack in plenty of detail and there’s a commendable amount of top-end fidelity to boot. Naturally, this makes the Momentum headphones a great choice regardless of your preferred musical genre.
The Momentum headphones aren’t noise cancelling, but they do a pretty good job of blocking out sounds from the surrounding environment – even if you’ll have to crank up the volume in noisier settings. Thankfully, though, the speakers don’t leak too much sound, so you don’t have to look forward to unimpressed stares from your fellow commuters.
Sennheiser knows how to deliver a premium aural experience, and the Momentum headphones deliver on this promise, and, in the process, they have highlighted to their competitors that it’s possible to offer consumers a product that comfortably merges both style and substance. They’re not cheap, but the balanced sound and great design make them worth every penny.
