Software firm to create 100 technology jobs
Award-winning software development company, Trend Micro, confirmed it is expanding its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) operations centre, based at its Model Farm Road offices.
The move will more than double the company’s workforce.
It is the second major IT jobs announcement in the city in over a week.
Last week, information technology company Netgear announced the creation of 100 hi-tech jobs following its decision to base its new international headquarters at University College Cork Technology Park in Bishopstown.
Tokyo-based Trend Micro was founded in 1998. It provides software, hardware and services in the secure content and threat management solutions business.
It opened its Cork offices in 2003 and employs more than 100 people.
But Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin announced yesterday that the company plans to expand existing functions and teams at the centre.
A number of new global and EMEA management functions and responsibilities, including a centralised sales team, will be added to the Cork centre.
Anthony O’Mara, Trend Micro’s EMEA vice-president of sales and operations, said the expansion would “substantially enhance the importance” of the Cork centre.
“We chose Cork because of the availability of its highly educated, multi-lingual and motivated workforce,” he said.
Mr Martin welcomed the expansion, which is supported by IDA Ireland.
“The company has rapidly developed since its arrival here in 2003 and we are delighted the Irish-based operation is playing such an important role in a truly global company.”
Cork Chamber chief executive Conor Healy also welcomed the announcement.
“Cork is now a world-leading location for top-end technology and knowledge-driven companies to establish operations,” he said.
