Two bumper weekends during June, which coincided with a bank holiday and Taylor Swift's concerts in Dublin, saw spending by Revolut customers in Ireland increase across the hospitality, entertainment, and transport sectors compared to May, new data from the fintech company shows.

The analysis tracked consumer spending across 55.6 million card payments during June. The company said it had more than 2.8 million customers in Ireland.

Revolt said the June bank holiday, along with the final weekend of the month — which saw the Taylor Swift concerts, GAA quarter-finals, and Dublin Pride — drove a hike in consumer spending.

Customers in Ireland headed for bars, cafes, restaurants, and nightclubs more often, with spending collectively rising by more than 10% compared to May.

Spending on taxis, buses, and general commuter transport rose by 12%, 12.5%, and 4.25% respectively.

Revolut noted an increase in spending on children’s activities. Spending on cinemas increased 34%, while spending on amusement parks and aquariums rose 26% and 19% respectively.

Domestic and international tourism was also a factor in Ireland’s increased spending. There was an 11% month-on-month increase in hotel spending, an increase of 13% compared to June 2023.

Meanwhile, spending in souvenir shops increased by 16% compared to May, with spending on tourist attractions up 17%.

The data also shows the overall amount of money spent by Revolut customers increased by 15% in June compared to the same period last year when adjusted to account for the 16.5% increase in Revolut customers in Ireland in that time.
