Repak urges correct recycling of Christmas packaging mountain

Repak is urging people to recycle their packaging waste correctly this Christmas.

The organisation which encourages businesses and consumers to recycle says 34% of Irish adults admitted to putting recyclable materials in their regular bin at Christmas. Some 15% also revealed that they dump glass beside bottle banks.

Repak said Ireland would generate enough glass to create 1.7 million Christmas baubles, and enough cardboard and paper to make 262 million crackers..

Marketing and communications manager for Repak Laura Murphy said: "We all know how much we consume over the holidays, with a lot of extra packaging around the house.

"We're asking people to try to recycle as much as they can over the holidays."
