Web Summit CEO apologises twice for continuing wifi problems at RDS

Dublin's Web Summit is still suffering from wifi difficulties several hours into the first day of the event.

The Summit, which is Europe’s largest tech event, has welcomed more than 22,000 people to the capital to hear the latest developments among online start-ups.

The Web Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave has now twice apologised to the thousands of delegates from more than 100 countries who have experienced connectivity issues at the conference.

He says technicians at the RDS are working on the problems, which have beset the first day of the Summit.

Huffington Post CEO Jimmy Maymann is one of those affected.

Meanwhile, in a statement the RDS has defended its technical set up at the summit saying a peak of almost 17,000 devices connected to its wifi at the RDS today.

Their Chief Executive, Michael Duffy, says there was a disruption of around 15 minutes which was resolved on site this morning and he says they are working with the summit to "ensure the best possible experience in a highly demanding environment".

The latest issues flared up during the ringing of the opening bell of New York’s Nasdaq stock exchange live from the Summit floor.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny was on hand to open the market, which he said is a signal that Ireland is ready and waiting for entrepreneurs from around the world.
