Danske Bank 'to stay in Irish market'

Danske Bank says it has no plans to withdraw from the Irish market.

The parent company of National Irish Bank made the comments as it expects loan impairment charges at NIB to peak in the second quarter.

The head of Danske's businesses outside Denmark, Thomas Borgen, said he expects the charges will trend downwards, but remain at high levels.

Loss-making NIB accounted for a third of Danske's loan impairment charges in the first half of the year.
