ISEQ up over 40 points

The ISEQ index of Irish shares rose 41.47 points or 1.42% in today's trading, finishing at 2,965.29.

Among the risers, Paddy Power jumped 86c to €22.00; DCC added 58c to €18.50; CRH gained 43c to €18.04; Aryzta added 20c to €26.50; C&C lifted 12c to €2.70; Merrion Pharmaceuticals was up 10c to €3.45 and insurer FBD gained 9c to €6.40.

Financial stocks also fared well, with AIB adding 7c to €1.76, Bank of Ireland up 16c to €1.91 and Irish Life & Permanent gaining 10c, to €4.75.

On the fallers' board, Ryanair shed 11c to €2.85.
