IBEC makes last-ditch offer of new pay talks
The employers' body IBEC has reportedly made a last-ditch offer to negotiate a new social partnership deal and avert widespread strike action next week.
Reports this morning say the organisation has sent a strongly worded letter to ICTU general secretary David Begg calling for the cancellation of the planned day of action next Monday.
The letter from IBEC director general Turlough O'Sullivan says the body is willing to explore the possibility of a new partnership deal, but only if pay is frozen for a significant period.
However, it says the prospects for agreement would be damaged if unions proceed with plans for strike action next Monday at companies that are not honouring the existing pay deal.
