IFA agree electricity deal with Bord Gáis

The Irish Farmers Association have announced a three-year electricity discount deal with Bord Gáis.

The IFA partnership with Bord Gáis will mean that IFA members will be guaranteed a combined minimum saving of 24% on their electricity requirements during the three-year.

A 12% discount is guaranteed in year one with a minimum discount of 6% for years two and three.

The IFA will negotiate final discounts, which, will be influenced by energy markets, group size, etc, at the beginning of year two and year three.

IFA President, Padraig Walshe said the IFA has a clear responsibility to help its members drive down utility and input costs wherever possible.

Mr Walshe said: "Electricity is a major cost to the IFA's 86,000 members and we are delighted that our success in driving down telecom costs can now again be repeated in the electricity market.”

Mr Walshe said he was delighted with the partnership with Bord Gáis, and called on all members to support this initiative, as the collective savings over the three-year period will be influenced by the size of the IFA affinity group.

John Mullins, Chief Executive of Bord Gáis said: "It is Bord Gáis’ stated intention to grow significantly as an Irish energy company by evolving to meet our customers’ changing energy needs. This entails the provision of competitive product offerings, akin to this partnership with the IFA, thereby providing all our current and new customers, with better choice and value for money."

Mr Mullins complimented the IFA for their social responsibility and commerciality in seeking to supply more cost-effective electricity to their members.
