Confusion surrounds claims of Aer Arann Shannon deal

There is confusion this morning surrounding claims that Aer Lingus told the Government about a possible deal with Aer Arann to safeguard Shannon-Heathrow services.

Reports this morning say a note released under the Freedom of Information Act shows that Aer Lingus chairman John Sharman told Department of Transport officials about "proposals for addressing the issue of connectivity in conjunction with Aer Arann".

However, aviation experts say they are surprised Mr Sharman would even make such a suggestion.

They say Aer Arann has no slots at Heathrow Airport, while the airline itself says all of its aircraft are already in use and it has never held any discussion with Aer Lingus about the Shannon situation.
