London’s blue chips were on the front foot today after a rally in US markets lifted investor sentiment on this side of the Atlantic.

The FTSE 100 Index rose 60.2 points to 6192.4 buoyed by a 2% gain for the Dow Jones Industrial Average overnight after comments from the US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke fuelled hopes of a cut in US interest rates next month.
