An Post appoints new chief executive

The board of An Post today approved the appointment of Mr Donal Connell as the new chief executive of the company.

Prior to accepting this position with An Post, Mr Connell was general manager of Maxtor Ireland Ltd and Vice President of Worldwide Supply Chain Operations for 3Com Corporation.

Mr. Connell said; “I am very pleased and honoured to accept this appointment. An Post is a fine organisation, staffed by a workforce with a proud history of serving the Irish customer as far back as the 1800s.

“This role is a particular honour for me because I have always felt a unique linkage with An Post; my father joined the organisation as a Post Office Learner at age 16 and spent all of his career in the Department of Posts and Telegraphs and I also spent the early part of my career there.

"This is a very exciting time in the history of An Post, and I am looking forward to working with the entire team in An Post to meet our objectives in a rapidly changing environment and to provide an excellent service to our customers.”
