Truckers threaten Dublin blockades over HGV strategy
Truckers are threatening a series of wildcat blockades in Dublin in protest at the city council's proposed HGV management strategy.
The Irish Road Haulage Association says the strategy put forward by the council is effectively turning into a ban on trucks, with no alternatives.
The association says it has offered to meet council officials, but the requests are continually being turned down.
Spokesman Liam Brewer said the IRHA didn't want truckers to be entering the city centre, but some formula needed to be drawn up to accommodate them elsewhere.
"Unfortunately, the initial report prepared for the city council, which recommended alternative accommodations, is basically now being walked away from by the council," he said.
