Ryanair has confirmed that two British passengers have each been given four-month suspended sentences by a Spanish court for stealing three life-jackets from a Ryanair flight.

The passengers flew from Nottingham East Midlands to Barcelona Girona on January 6.

Ryanair spokesman Peter Sherrard said: "The safety of our aircraft, passengers and crew is Ryanair’s number-one priority at all times and we welcome this decision, which acts as a strong deterrent to the tiny minority of passengers who are guilty of stealing important safety equipment from aircraft.

“We have now banned these passengers from flying with Ryanair."
