SIPTU: No partnership talks unless exploitation addressed

SIPTU has said it will not enter into talks on a new national partnership deal until the issues around job displacement and exploitation are addressed.

The worker’s union is looking for assurances from the Government that measures will be put in place to prevent what happened at Gama and Irish Ferries from happening again.

The talks on a follow up to Sustaining Progress were delayed because of the dispute at Irish Ferries.

SIPTU President Jack O'Connor says last years debacles should bring home the fact that the matter needs to b e addressed, despite the fact that the government and employers deny any problem exists.

“What we really need to do is to get an understanding that the government and employers are on the same playing pitch as unions in relation to this issue” he said.
