Opposition push for new Irish food label

Fine Gael has proposed the introduction of a new Irish food label known as Green Ireland.

Speaking at the party’s national conference in Millstreet in Co Cork, Deputy Denis Naughton said Irish agriculture is now at a critical crossroads and the next ten years will be vital.

He said unless the country’s food and agriculture sector is made competitive rural Ireland is in trouble.

It is vital that the Government review the rules and regulations surrounding the food and agriculture sector, he said, or farmers and their livelihoods will be at serious risk.
