ISEQ slips despite gains at FBD and IAWS

Despite major gains for FBD Holdings and IAWS, the ISEQ dipped 2.93 points today to stand at 6722.34 by the end of the day's trading.

The Insurance group FBD made a 30c gain to stand at €31.80 while food company IAWS saw their price go up 20c to €11.60. Rival food firm Kerry also saw a rise in share price, this time at 12c to €19.12.

The positive trend was continued at Jurys Doyle Hotels who ended the day 5c the better at €18.60 after shareholders at the group today voted unanimously at their EGM in favour of selling the company’s prestigious Ballsbridge site for €260m.

Elan who had made the morning’s biggest increase, saw their price falter to a more modest five centincrease to stand at €6.65. The pharmaceutical and its partner Biogen Idec announced today that they have submitted a license application for controversial multiple-sclerosis drug Tysabri to the USFDA.

Elsewhere, Business support group, DCC, had a 10c rise to €16.85, while building material group CRH saw their price fall by the same amount to €22.20.

Independent News and Media had a four-cent fall to €2.33 as the group announced a new editor at the Irish Independent. Gerard O'Regan will replace Vinnie Doyle at the national newspaper.

Irish Life and Permanent was up 10c at €15.00. AIB dropped 14c to €17.60, while Anglo Irish Bank also dipped by 5c to €11.17.

Bank of Ireland increased by four cents to €12.99. In a trading statement issued today, the bank predicted underlying eps for the half-year to September 30 to grow by around 9%.
