Central Bank allays fears on new euro notes

Euro banknotes bearing the signature of Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), are starting to come into circulation in Ireland.

Production of these banknotes began shortly after Mr Trichet became President on November 1, 2003.

The banknotes are the same as the banknotes with the signature of Wim Duisenberg in every other way, and both are genuine.

The Central Bank said it had received a number of calls from the public in recent days regarding these signatures.
