New McDonalds boss has cancer surgery

New McDonald’s chief executive Charlie Bell has undergone successful colorectal cancer surgery less than three weeks after replacing chief executive officer Jim Cantalupo who died of a heart attack.

Bell, an Australian, will remain president and CEO during what the Oak Brook, Illinois-based company said would be a brief recovery.

Spokesman Walt Riker said Bell had not been diagnosed with colon cancer when he was appointed CEO on April 19. He said the company would provide no more information about Bell’s condition out of respect for his privacy.

Bell, aged 43, became the sixth CEO in the company’s history on April 19, after Cantalupo died suddenly in Florida at a company conference.
