Favourite UK holiday haunts
South West England is the most popular destination for Britons taking a holiday, but northern city dwellers prefer Wales and Londoners escape to the South Coast, according to new research today.
More than a third of British holidaymakers are opting for tourist attractions at home, and the number is expected to increase.
A report by teletextholidays.co.uk showed that the pleasures of Blackpool, Brighton and Bournemouth were proving increasingly popular with Britons.
Midlanders were particularly attracted to the South West, Liverpudlians and Mancunians to Wales and Londoners to the South Coast or theme parks in the Home Counties.
Marc Bell, marketing director at Teletext Holidays said the study of more than 16,000 holidaymakers showed that UK tourism was competing with the rest of the world.
“You really don’t need to fly thousands of miles to see the wonders of the world. They’re all right here.”
