Ford warns 10% of staff to go
Motoring giants Ford today sent e-mails to its staff around the world warning that jobs are about to be axed.
The US company said it plans to reduce white collar staff costs by 10% by the end of the year – a move that will eliminate an unspecified number of jobs.
The cost-cutting effort comes as the world’s second-largest car maker tries to keep a restructuring plan on track.
Ford declined to say how many white-collar jobs would be cut. Chief operating officer Nick Scheele alerted Ford workers worldwide in an e-mail today
“Despite this excellent work, we still face uncertain economies around the globe and a fiercely competitive marketplace,” Scheele said in his e-mail.
“As a result, it’s imperative that we continue looking at all of our costs globally to achieve even higher levels of efficiency and cost competitiveness.”
