IBM investigated by US Securities Commission
IBM has said that the US Securities and Exchange Commission has launched an investigation into the company’s financial practices.
The SEC is apparently seeking information relating to revenue recognition in 2000 and 2001 relating to certain types of customer transactions.
IBM has said that the investigation came about after the SEC began investigating a customer of IBM’s Retail Store Solutions unit.
This unit makes point-of-sale products such as cash registers.
Analysts appear to feel that at the end of the day the investigation will have little impact on IBM’s financials.
