Retail entrepreneur Philip Green today reported Christmas sales rises at his Arcadia store chain.

Arcadia, which includes Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Miss Selfridge, saw its like-for-like sales rise 2.4%.

English billionaire Mr Green bought Arcadia in October in a £850m (€1.29bn) deal and said today that customer response to new ranges at the group was positive.

“This performance demonstrates the strength of our business in a competitive trading environment.

“Although only 19 weeks into the current financial year, customer and sales response to new ranges, together with our leading brands, gives us confidence that we will deliver significant profit enhancement this year,” he said.
