Ahern launches draft policy document to ComReg
The Minister for Communications Dermot Ahern has announced the publication of a draft policy direction to the newly established Commission for Communications Regulation (CCR).
He has outlined the objectives for the communication sector.
One is to place Ireland on a competitive par with the top OECD economies in terms of key internet and communications benchmarks, including price, quality and choice.
The Minister is aiming for progress in the provision of access to the internet at flat rate charges. He is also looking for progress in broadband rollout.
The Government is also anxious that there regulation should occur only where necessary and that the costs of such regulation are minimised.
