US Congressional negotiators agree to work over weekend on economic stimulus

Congressional negotiators have agreed to work through the weekend to find a compromise on how to give the struggling US economy a boost after the latest round of talks failed be the catalyst for a deal.

"I think if we reach an agreement... it will be in the next couple of days," said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, a Montana Democrat.

But Baucus cautioned that negotiators are not forced to come to an agreement and the stimulus package may never materialize.

"We might not get to the finish line on time and the finish line is sometime around Monday, maybe Tuesday," Baucus told reporters as he headed into another session of talks.

The lawmakers agreed to meet again tomorrow and see whether they will meet again Sunday or Monday.
