Motorola to up production in China
Motorola plans to increase production in China.
The company says it will invest $6.6bn in its Chinese operations over the next five years.
Company officials outlined the plans during a visit that included a meeting with President Jiang Zemin.
A spokeswoman says the mobile phone and semiconductor maker is already the largest foreign investor in China, having invested $3.4bn since its initial involvement in 1992.
The new investment is intended to help it become a leader in wireless, internet and broadband services in the country.
The move to step up Chinese production comes as the company continues to cut operating costs elsewhere.
Motorola lost $1.4bn in the third quarter and is in the final stages of a long process of cutting its workforce
