Broadcom to close with loss of 50 jobs
Broadcom has closed with the loss of 50 jobs.
It was established in 1987 as a joint venture between L M Ericsson and Telecom Eireann (now eircom) (45-45%) with 10% shareholding by Trinity College Dublin.
The company was involved in research and development in telecommunications technology.
It built its core competencies in telecommunications management and telecommunications services.
This year a number of companies in which eircom had an interest have closed. These include digital publishing company Rondomondo, Ebeon [51% owned by eircom], Local Ireland and Viasec.
Eircom had a 10% interest in internet publishing firm Nua which went into receivership but is now functioning again. In June, it sold back to Flexicom for £1 its 30% stake in the company.
