AnaBio Technologies scoops graduate business innovation award
The Bank of Ireland/Ignite Business of the Year Award 2013, was presented to Dr Sinead Doherty of AnaBio Technologies as the judges believed the company has the most potential.
The judges were particularly impressed with the portfolio of multinational clients that AnaBio has secured to date.
Chairman of the judging panel and Bank of Ireland regional business manager Joe O’Brien praised the eight companies that were fighting out for the title of business of the year.
“The calibre of the business presentations was very high. It is incredible how far each of the business has progressed in such a short time on the Ignite programme. All presenters demonstrated that they have the ability to develop successful businesses,” he said.
Other businesses that won awards last night included Brendan Finucane of VConnecta Ltd who won the Ernst & Young/Ignite Business Plan Award.
Mr Finucane developed ECanvasser, a mobile application for political canvassing.
President of Cork Chamber of Commerce, Gillian Keating presented the JW O’Donovan Solicitors Innovation Award to Declan Gordon of Mohago Ltd. The company is working on providing data management solutions for scientific and industrial research and development centres.
Mr Gordon from Mohago also received the Ignite 2013 Peer Award in recognition of the spirit of cooperation, leadership and entrepreneurial ability he demonstrated throughout the Ignite programme.
Director of the Ignite programme, Eamon Curtin said that interest in securing a place on the programme has never been stronger with over 100 applicants last year.
“The Ignite Programme is going from strength to strength. This year there were nearly 100 expressions of interest, almost twice the number of applicants from last year, and the quality of the applicants is higher thanever,” he said.
