Waste group sale ‘to save 100 jobs’

The remaining parts of the Mr Binman group were bought from the receiver yesterday by Quality Recycling in a move that it is hoped will secure over 100 jobs.

Quality Recycling, part of the Wiser Recycling Group, has taken over the businesses and assets of O’Meara Waste and Clearpoint Recycling which employed 119 people in Munster as part of the Mr Binman Group.

The transaction price was not disclosed.

The managing director of Quality Recycling, Dermot O’Brien, said that it intends to continue to deliver the quality service that O’Meara Waste and Clearpoint Recycling were known for.

“I would like to thank the customers of both O’Mearas and Clearpoint for their loyalty and support during the receivership process, and assure them that it is our intention to continue and enhance further, the quality of customer service.

“I would like to also thank the loyalty and support from employees of both businesses,” said Mr O’Brien.

Mr Binman’s operations in Limerick, Kerry, Clare, Cork and Galway had previously been sold to a consortium of investors led by Brian Dillon, managing director of Dillon Waste and Recycling.

Bank of Scotland has appointed receivers KPMG to the Mr Binman group of waste collection companies in October last year following concerns about the companies’ ability to repay €53 million to its biggest creditor.

KPMG receiver Padraic Monaghan said: “Today’s transaction ensures the future viability of the business.

“I wish Quality Recycling Ltd and the acquired businesses the very best for the future.”
