Neasa earns young entrepreneur prize for Learn 2 Learn mentoring plan
Neasa was presented with a €5,000 cash prize at an awards ceremony in the Malton Hotel, Killarney over the weekend.
Entitled Learn 2 Learn, her business idea of a tutorial and mentoring service for Junior Cert students, provided by Transition Year students, most impressed the panel of judges.
The awards mark the end of the first academic year of the Young Entrepreneur Programme (YEP) which was developed by the Institute of Technology, Tralee (ITT) and Shannon Development’s Kerry Technology Park and is dedicated to illustrating the validity of entrepreneurship as a career choice for young people.
Neasa said: “I can’t believe it. I’m delighted. The business plan was a lot of work but I got a real buzz out of it”.
The judging panel included Aer Arann chairman Padraig O’Ceidigh and Joanna Gardiner, MD of Ovelle Pharmaceutical.
Other category winners included best second-level entry: Lisa Quill and Denise O’Sullivan, Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine, Kenmare, for Babysitme.ie and best third-level entry: Katie Sheehy, ITT for a plan to set up a bistro/bookstore called Tasty Pages in Killorglin.
