Hedge walks won’t beat around bush

AN incredible length of 4,470km of new native Irish hedgerows will be planted on 14,900 farms in every parish in Ireland, in the next few years, under the Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

A further 2,650 km of existing hedgerow will be rejuvenated.

A national series of Teagasc Biodiversity farm walks will begin at Kildalton College, Piltown, Co Kilkenny, today to demonstrate planting techniques.

The series of farm walks will allow farmers to see first hand the best techniques and practices when planting new hedgerows and rejuvenating existing ones.
