Financials help push index higher

THE ISEQ index edged higher for a second day in succession, gaining 6.50 points to 4548.59.

The financial stocks had a good day. Over five million shares were traded in Allied Irish Bank with the stock gaining 17c to 12.70. Anglo Irish Bank added 14c to 8.76 and IFG Group finished 4c stronger at 70c. Irish Life continued its recent good run, rising 3c to 10.83, while Bank of Ireland was 2c firmer at 10.88.

Gresham Hotel Group fell 3c to 86c after announcing its interim results yesterday. The company said in its outlook statement that it continues to operate in an environment with limited visibility.

Elsewhere, Ryanair slipped 26c to 6.24, Elan eased 10c to 4.00 while DCC advanced 15c to 10.50.
